In Lead Docket, related contacts are individuals that are related to a lead’s primary contact, like a parent, spouse, or witness. Related contacts can be added to new leads during creation, and to existing leads. Users can view a lead’s related contacts in the Contact tab of that lead. In the Contact tab, users also have the ability to remove related contacts, edit related contacts, and more.
Add a Related Contact
To a New Lead
When adding a new lead, you can add a related contact by clicking the Add Related Contact button in the Contact Information section. This selection will open the Add Related Contact form. If the lead’s primary contact is a minor or deceased, you must add a related contact before saving the new lead.
To an Existing Lead
You can also add a related contact to an existing lead in the Contact tab of that lead.
Navigate to the desired lead. In the opened lead, click the Contact tab. In the Contact Information section, click Add Related Contact to open the Add Related Contact form.
Add Related Contact Form
In the Add Related Contact form, fill out the fields for the related contact. To enter a company’s information, click the building icon beside the First Name field to toggle to the company contact form. To toggle back to the individual contact form, click the profile icon.
If your Lead Docket organization is integrated with Filevine, you can choose a contact type for the related contact using the Filevine Contact Type dropdown. When the lead is sent to Filevine, the related contact will have the selected contact type attached in Filevine.
If the related contact is an existing contact in Lead Docket, you can pull their information by clicking Choose Existing Contact in the top right. This selection will open the Add Existing Contact modal.
Enter the desired name, and then click Search. Beside the desired contact, click Select.
Once you’ve selected an existing contact, enter the related contact’s relationship with the primary contact, specify whether or not the related contact is an additional plaintiff, and add further details, if desired.
When you’ve filled out the fields to your satisfaction, click Save. Once saved, the related contact will appear in the Contact tab of the associated lead, and in search results.
View
You can view a lead’s related contacts in the Contact tab of that lead. To navigate to the Contact tab, search for the desired lead in the top search bar and select the desired lead. At the top of the opened lead, click the Contact tab. Any existing related contacts will appear below the main lead’s contact information. If the related contacts are marked as additional plaintiffs, their information will appear in a separate Additional Contacts section.
More Options
Below a related contact, you have the option to select from the following actions:
- Remove: Remove the related contact from the lead. The removed contact will still exist in the system.
- Edit Relationship: Edit the contact’s relationship with the lead, additional plaintiff information, and other details.
- Edit Contact: Edit the contact information for that individual.
- Other Options
- Promote to Lead: If the related contact is marked as an additional plaintiff, you will see the option to promote the related contact to a lead. If selected, Lead Docket will ask you to confirm the action.
Once confirmed, the contact will be converted into a lead with the "Under Review" status, and you will be taken to the new lead. The original lead is added to the new lead as a related contact, and the original lead's case details are copied into the new lead. - Swap with Lead Contact: Allows you to swap the related contact with the primary contact for a lead. If selected, Lead Docket will ask you to confirm the action.
Once swapped, the related contact will become the primary lead contact, and the former primary lead contact will appear as a related contact.
- Promote to Lead: If the related contact is marked as an additional plaintiff, you will see the option to promote the related contact to a lead. If selected, Lead Docket will ask you to confirm the action.
