Lead Docket’s contact custom fields are tied to a contact in Lead Docket, rather than to a lead, allowing Lead Docket users to have custom fields for related contacts as well as primary contacts.
Contact custom fields also let users map custom contact fields to custom contact fields in a Filevine project, helping them keep their systems in sync.
Creating Contact Custom Fields
To add a contact custom field in Lead Docket, click Manage > Custom Fields in the left hand menu. The lead custom fields are listed on this page. Click Contact Custom Fields at the top right to switch to contact custom fields.
Click on the Add Custom Field button and select the desired field type. In the Add Contact Custom Fields modal, enter the field’s name and fill the other fields as needed.
Filling Fields
Many of the fields for contact custom fields are the same as those in a lead custom field. However, contact custom fields do not include an option for location. These fields will always appear at the end of a contact information section, following the default contact info fields. Contact custom fields also cannot be made dependent on case type or other fields, since they are tied to a contact rather than a case.
Contact custom fields include a display name and can include a description. These fields will always be displayed with other contact custom fields, but the display order of different contact custom fields can be changed. They can be marked required, exportable, or obsolete and given a default value just as other fields can.
Mapping to Filevine
The last field in the Add Contact Custom Field modal, Filevine Custom, maps the Lead Docket field to an existing contact field in Filevine. Learn more about creating contact fields in Filevine.
Begin typing in this field to search and filter for Filevine contact fields, and select the field you want to map to.
Warning: When choosing the mapped Filevine contact field, make sure that the field type is compatible with the Lead Docket field type. If a currency custom field in Lead Docket is mapped to a Yes/No field in Filevine, for example, the information will not be correctly mapped to Filevine.
Field Location
Once a contact custom field is created, it will appear wherever contact information exists in Lead Docket: in the Contact Info section in the new lead form, under the Contacts tab of a created lead, and in the Contacts section.
If a related contact is added to a lead, any contact custom fields will also appear for the related contact.
Posting to Filevine
Once a contact custom field has been filled, map the field to Filevine by posting the lead to Filevine. When the lead is posted to Filevine:
- all contacts currently added in the lead will be created in Filevine
- all contact fields mapped to Filevine will be filled in their respective contacts in Filevine
Once the information has been posted in Filevine, any additional changes made in Lead Docket will not be updated in Filevine, so make sure all information is filled for contacts before the lead is posted to Filevine.
